Privacy policy

• This site is CalcStudio, operated by Riverhorse Technologies Limited. Where this policy says "we", it means that company.
• Running a calculator needs no account. The figures you type in are worked out in your own browser - they are not sent to us or stored on our servers.
• Using the CalcStudio workspace, embedding the calculators on your own website or buying calculator access does need an account, and we hold the details you give us for those.
• We advertise on Facebook and Instagram, so this site loads the Meta pixel. It tells Meta which page you opened, and whether you created an account or sent us an enquiry. It is never told your name, email address, phone number, or any figure you type into a calculator.
• The pixel does not run on calculators embedded in someone else's website, or on our staff-only pages.
• The cookies we set ourselves keep you signed in and remember how much of the free calculator preview you have used. The Meta pixel sets its own cookies, and those are advertising cookies.
• We do not sell your information to anyone.

You do not need to give us anything to run a calculator. You do give us information when you set up an account or use the parts of the service that need one:

• Your account: your email address and password, plus a display name and profile image if you choose to add them. Passwords are handled by our sign-in provider and are never visible to us.
• Billing: subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach our servers. We keep your customer reference and subscription status so we know what your account has access to.
• Your branding: the logo, colours, business details and disclaimer you add to your calculators. These are shown publicly on your embedded calculators, which is their purpose.
• Documents uploaded to the adviser tools: the AI adviser tools are no longer offered on this site, so there is nothing here to upload a document to. Files uploaded to them while they were available may contain your clients' information, only your account can access them, and they expire automatically as described below.
• Messages: whatever you put in the contact form, the bespoke calculator request form or an email to us, such as your name, email, company, phone number and question, so we can reply. Bespoke requests are also kept in our own database so we can quote and build the calculator; an example file you attach is emailed to our team and only its name is kept. We do not add you to a marketing list.

We do not use Google Analytics. We do use one advertising tool - the Meta pixel, described first below - because we advertise this product on Facebook and Instagram. Everything collected without you typing it is listed here:

• Meta pixel: a small piece of Meta's code that runs on the pages of this site. It reports to Meta that a browser opened a page, which page it was, and whether that visit ended in you creating an account or sending us an enquiry - and for an enquiry, which topic you picked from our list. Meta also receives your IP address and browser details, as any website you load does. Every report is tagged with a site label, calcstudio, so Meta can tell this site apart from our others. It is used to measure our advertising and to show our ads to people who have visited us. It is NOT given your name, email address, phone number, home or business address, or any number you enter into a calculator - none of those are ever sent, on any page. Meta may combine what it receives with a Facebook or Instagram account it recognises; their own privacy policy governs that, and there is a link to it below.
• Server logs: our hosting and database providers keep standard web-server logs, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and reliability. Nearly all web servers do this.
• Embedded calculator checks: when one of your calculators loads on your website, we check the requesting domain against the domains authorised for your account, and count the load - and whether it ended in a result - against your account so we know which of our calculators are being used and where. That check records your account, the calculator and the website address, and the day - not the visitor. We do not set a cookie on your visitors and we store nothing that identifies them.
• Free preview use: how much of the free calculator preview has been used in your browser, kept in a cookie holding a random value so the allowance survives a page refresh. It tells us nothing about who you are. The preview applies only when you are signed out - once you have an account the calculators are free to use without limit, so there is nothing left to count and nothing about your calculator use is recorded against your account.

Cookies are small files a website can store in your browser. This site sets three kinds - two of them ours and essential to the service, and one set by Meta for advertising:

• Staying signed in: the cookies that keep you signed in to your account. Without them you would be signed out on every page.
• The free calculator preview: one cookie that remembers how much of the free preview you have used, so refreshing the page does not hand out a fresh allowance. It holds a random value and nothing else - no name, no email, nothing that says who you are - and we do not use it to identify you.
• Meta advertising cookies: the Meta pixel described above sets its own cookies in your browser to recognise the same browser across visits. These are advertising cookies, they are set by Meta rather than by us, and they are not essential to the service - blocking them stops none of the calculators working.

The first two are set by CalcStudio itself, are not used for advertising or profiling, and are not shared with anyone. The third is Meta's, and is an advertising cookie - that is what it is for, and we would rather say so plainly than bury it.

Neither we nor Meta receive your name, email address, phone number, address or any figure you type into a calculator through these cookies. The calculators do their working in your own browser, so those numbers never leave your device at all.

You can block or delete cookies at any time in your browser settings. The calculators will still work, but you will not be able to stay signed in to an account, and the free preview allowance will start again from the beginning each time you visit. Signed in, there is no preview limit at all.

To stop the Meta cookies specifically, you can block third-party or advertising cookies in your browser, use its tracking-protection setting, or change your ad preferences in your Facebook or Instagram account. Doing any of these changes nothing about your access to CalcStudio.

The service relies on a small number of providers to function. Each operates under its own privacy policy:

• Supabase: our database, sign-in and file storage.
• Stripe: payments and subscription billing.
• Vercel: hosting and delivery of the website.
• SMTP2GO: sending service email, such as your enquiry or bespoke request to our team, and account notifications.
• Meta (Facebook and Instagram): measuring our advertising, through the pixel described above. Meta receives the page you opened, whether the visit ended in an account or an enquiry, and your IP address and browser details - never your name, email address, phone number, address, or anything you type into a calculator.
• OpenAI: while the AI adviser tools were offered, the text and documents submitted to them were sent to OpenAI to produce a response. Those tools have been withdrawn from this site, and nothing you do on a calculator is sent to OpenAI or to any other AI provider.

Fonts and application code are served from this site rather than from a third-party font or script network. The Meta pixel is the one exception: it loads its script from Meta, and only on CalcStudio's own pages. It does not run on a calculator embedded in someone else's website, so if you met one of our calculators on an adviser's site, no pixel of ours ran there.

What Meta does with what the pixel sends it is governed by Meta's own privacy policy, which you can read at facebook.com/privacy/policy.

We keep your account details, branding and billing records for as long as your account is open, and for as long afterwards as we need them for tax and accounting obligations.

Documents that were uploaded to the adviser tools before those tools were withdrawn expire automatically six months after upload, and that has not changed. Messages you send us are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your question. If you would like your account or your past correspondence deleted, ask us and we will remove it.

The New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 gives you the right to ask what personal information an organisation holds about you, and to ask for it to be corrected. Contact us and we will tell you what is held against your account, correct anything that is wrong, or delete it where we are not required to keep it.

CalcStudio is a business tool intended for financial advisers and businesses, and accounts are not directed at children. The calculators themselves can be used by anyone without an account and collect no personal information, so a young person using an embedded calculator tells us nothing about who they are. The only thing stored is the free-preview cookie described above, which holds a random value.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new review date. Where a change materially affects how we handle your information, we may also tell account holders by email.
